This song has been a favorite of mine since I first heard it many years ago. It's a very honest description of life with Jesus. I know the pain Amy Grant sings of, and I've also come to know the joy she sings of in trusting that God has something better in mind when He brings my plans to an end. It's a hard lesson to learn, but it's well worth it.
